It Feels Like a Long While
We have not been blogging for a while.
After our visit to the Australian shoe fair in Sydney in the middle of
February. Things seem to have gone quiet for a while, yet it’s not the case. We
have been busy making contacts with potential new clients and touching base
with “old” (they probably have grown older too) clients to keep them updated.
Spring seems to be around the corner. The
weather seems so unpredictable. It is warm and sunny one day and rainy and
chilly the next. I was a bit confused walking into Uniqlo’s flagship store two
days ago in Taipei. The Laura Ashley’s vantage spring collection with
sleeveless dress looked so cute while I was still with my thick cotton jacket
with a fluffy hood from Abercrombie & Fitch.
The outing to see cherry blossoms has
become a major family and friends activity in Taiwan in February and March. I am not sure since
when. Perhaps it is also part of the Japanese influence. I remember this
particular day in early spring where my Japanese classmates from the German
language course made an appointment, brought sake and snacks just to appreciate
the cherry blossoms. “Unter einem Sakura (cherry blossom) Baum. Das ist eine Tradition,” one of them
said. It sounded so poetic to me and still does. I imagined sitting under a big cherry blossom tree and being rained on by the flowers.
The BBC radio broadcast was on a news
article a couple of days ago where a group of Russian grandmas will represent
Russia to participate in the Eurovision song contest.
They sounded so cheerful from the radio's music clip. The title of the song is called “Party for Everybody.” I admired their spirit. They may not look splendid (why does it always have to be) but they are inspirational.
Several later the BBC covered them again and said that they came from a remote
village and came up with this idea of participating in the contest because they
wanted to win the prize so that there would be funds to keep it going. When
there is a will, there is a way.
